Are your Tires Properly Inflated?

How often do you check your tire pressure? Don’t wait until it’s too late! Check your tire pressure regularly. Proper tire inflation is important for several reasons including safety and fuel efficiency.

Tires with decreased pressure wear unevenly because more of the tire comes in contact with the road. If a tire is under-inflated by as little as 6 PSI the life of the tire can be decreased by as much as 25%. This increased contact also causes more friction with the road which leads to increased fuel consumption.

Overinflated tires are a safety risk. They are more prone to punctures and other damage from bumps and potholes. It is also much more difficult to determine if a tire is overinflated without the use of a pressure gauge.

It is important to ensure that your tires are always inflated to the manufacturer-specified PSI, which can usually be found inside the driver’s side door. It is important to check your tire pressure when the tires are cold (before driving). This ensures an accurate reading because the air in your tires has not expanded from the heat of driving.
